Happy Holidays!
I can hardly believe there are only 8 days until Christmas. I am sure that this time of year is as busy for you and your family as it is for me and mine. There are always so many events and activities to keep us busy. This can be both a positive and a negative, it all depends on how we choose to look see it. In the past I have let the busyness of the season stress me out, but no longer will I allow that to happen. This year and moving forward I am choosing to let the seasons' increase in activity be a pleasant experience.
Is it as simple as saying to myself "the holidays will be good"? No, unfortunately it isn't. However it is as easy as imagining the best possible scenario over and over again. Don't believe me? Well just give it a try...Close your eyes, take a few deep breathes and try to remember one of your most happy memories. It could be the day you brought home your first pet as a child, the day you received a promotion or the moment when you realized you were in love. For me, I enjoy recalling moments when I become aware of an answered prayer. Can you feel the excitement, can you feel the joy coursing through your body all over again? What do you see? What do you hear? Describe how you felt in that moment... and rehearse creating that feeling while planning your holiday season or any day for that matter.
Often times we let emotions rule over us as if we are not in control of them if we choose to be. We get lost in the emotion, chaos and mindlessly walk through our days. Lets commit to being more mindful of what we allow to replay in our thoughts. This will allow us to take back our control of our lives!

( I am excited to share with you all the name of the author and teacher that has research and lived out all of these concepts **no this is not being sponsored in anyway** Dr. Jim Richards has a long list of reading material that can help you develop a practice of influencing your own heart and allow you to begin creating the life you want to live- find him at www.impactministries.com)

A thought, if anyone is interested in sharing their reading list or possibly getting together in a chat or periscope for a book club I would love to know!

Silent Killer

From my heart... Being a mental health professional I hear people talk about depression and mental illness all day everyday. I read the statistics and reports about the "system" failing individuals quite frequently, But, when tragedy hits close to home it can be a LOUD  wake-up call! It's hard for me to understand the fact that mental illness is still a taboo thing. I personally don't understand why it's not a more discussed topic, why there aren't enough resources and access to treatment. Here in the US we have option after option for physical healthcare. If you don't like a physician for whatever reason all you have to do is walk across the hall or drive across the street and there are at least 10 more for the choosing. Why aren't there just as many easy options for mental healthcare treatment?  These day there is a checklist for "warning signs" for every ailment out there and I want to be sure that depression warning signs are top of mind...
