What I learned this week

Hey hey, how was your holiday?
When I say the Thanksgiving holiday came not a moment to soon I really mean it! Last week I was able to get some much needed rest. I hope that everyone that celebrated had a great one and for those who didn't I still hope last week was a good one for you;)
One reason last week was so refreshing for me is because the two weeks prior to last week I was struggling with a sinus infection and some fibromyalgia flare related pain. And I admit, instead of focusing on what I know builds my body up I allowed myself to default to old not as good habits. You wouldn't believe the tiny amounts of water I drank smh. However, I have found the silver lining in the situation! This slip wasn't a continuous slip, I found my footing and have began to journey back down the path of wellness! It's funny really, when you make healthy eating and activities part of your normal routine it becomes your new normal and your mind and body will begin to crave them as much as they craved the junk and bad habits you once felt so much comfort from. As I always say, it's a journey let's continue to learn and grow together.
I'd love to hear about your Thanksgiving adventures comment below or connect with me on Instagram by clicking the link below

Silent Killer

From my heart... Being a mental health professional I hear people talk about depression and mental illness all day everyday. I read the statistics and reports about the "system" failing individuals quite frequently, But, when tragedy hits close to home it can be a LOUD  wake-up call! It's hard for me to understand the fact that mental illness is still a taboo thing. I personally don't understand why it's not a more discussed topic, why there aren't enough resources and access to treatment. Here in the US we have option after option for physical healthcare. If you don't like a physician for whatever reason all you have to do is walk across the hall or drive across the street and there are at least 10 more for the choosing. Why aren't there just as many easy options for mental healthcare treatment?  These day there is a checklist for "warning signs" for every ailment out there and I want to be sure that depression warning signs are top of mind...
