"Food Fixes"

Things I've learned about myself... I am an emotional eater! I have all the knowledge in the world about what's good for your body vs not so good when it comes to food, but when I'm experiencing stress I want to change that feeling with food. So I have decided to fill up my home and office with health snacks. I started out with things like Skinny Pop, fruit and vegetable and hummus and these things worked pretty well. However, I do have a sweet tooth so I have been looking for some good healthy/low calorie "fixes". The following are my favorite "fixes"

1.Bitter chocolate: 1 large block or 3 small squares of dark chocolate 2.Frozen grapes: Freeze 1 cup of grapes 3.Sweet potato: Enjoy one small baked sweet potato (I season mine with cinnamon and nutmeg) 4.Strawberry and spinach salad: For a savory and sweet salad,1 cup of baby spinach with one-half cup of sliced strawberries. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar 5.Popcorn:2 cups of all-natural popcorn Guess what???

All of the 5 Food Fixes are under 100 calories!!!! Yes, under 100 calories. I found these on a blog 30 Tasty Snacks That Are 100 Calories or Less on a blog written by Croftraider. It is so time for me to jump back into a clean diet again, Who's with me? Lets take small steps towards transforming our bodies and minds together until a complete upgrade has occurred. Silent Killer

From my heart... Being a mental health professional I hear people talk about depression and mental illness all day everyday. I read the statistics and reports about the "system" failing individuals quite frequently, But, when tragedy hits close to home it can be a LOUD  wake-up call! It's hard for me to understand the fact that mental illness is still a taboo thing. I personally don't understand why it's not a more discussed topic, why there aren't enough resources and access to treatment. Here in the US we have option after option for physical healthcare. If you don't like a physician for whatever reason all you have to do is walk across the hall or drive across the street and there are at least 10 more for the choosing. Why aren't there just as many easy options for mental healthcare treatment?  These day there is a checklist for "warning signs" for every ailment out there and I want to be sure that depression warning signs are top of mind...
