What's all the hype about meditation?

Everywhere you go these days someone is talking about the benefits of meditation or going a yoga class right? You may be asking yourself what's the big deal. Well, I am here to tell you...
Meditation is an ancient practice that people nowadays have over-complicated. Meditation can be as simple as focusing your attention or thinking about a topic intensely. The Bible says that meditation is to "think on these things".
So why is everyone and there mother all up in a tizzy about it? Here are 3 major reasons to give it a try.
1. You control the amount of time spent on this activity.
No one can tell you how much meditation is right for you and your situation. You get to decide the length of of time you'll spend and the frequency that you'll practice using this tool.
2. You get to determine what issue/situation to address during your meditation.
For example:Let's say you've had a stressful day. You can decide to sit quietly for a follow the steps of a deep breathing exercise. Inhale for 4 counts hold for 2 seconds and exhale for 4 counts. Doing this for about a minute or two can change your entire mood!
3. The physiological affects.
Time spent practicing meditation will lower stress levels, improve mood, increase healthy blood circulation, lower blood pressure and regulate blood sugar too.

Go ahead google it "Benefits of Meditation"... I'll wait lol

Silent Killer

From my heart... Being a mental health professional I hear people talk about depression and mental illness all day everyday. I read the statistics and reports about the "system" failing individuals quite frequently, But, when tragedy hits close to home it can be a LOUD  wake-up call! It's hard for me to understand the fact that mental illness is still a taboo thing. I personally don't understand why it's not a more discussed topic, why there aren't enough resources and access to treatment. Here in the US we have option after option for physical healthcare. If you don't like a physician for whatever reason all you have to do is walk across the hall or drive across the street and there are at least 10 more for the choosing. Why aren't there just as many easy options for mental healthcare treatment?  These day there is a checklist for "warning signs" for every ailment out there and I want to be sure that depression warning signs are top of mind...
